QUIET CONFIDENCE

“Be still, and know that I am God!

Ballroom dancing is one of my favourite forms of dancing, it requires two people( a male and female) for it to be beautiful and most importantly they both need to be in sync, and for that to happen they have to trust each other. I consider it is an elegant dance style after Ballet.

I recently tried teaching a friend ballroom dancing, it was disastrous, well fun for the most part but when we got to the part where she had to hold me tight for a bow she kept dropping me, after two drops I ran away, I didn’t trust her enough to continue the dance. In my case, it makes sense to run away, but we do the same with God. We believe He will drop us even when He has shown us over and over that He will never let us down. We run away even before we start the dance.

Imagine you are in a ballroom dancing with God, but for the dance to really be beautiful, you have to allow God to take the lead, release yourself into his hands, and trust that he won’t let you go. It is in that place of quietness and trust that we find strength.

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it. Isaiah 30: 15 NLT

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, strength is defined as the quality or state of being strong: capacity for exertion or endurance. Which is what we all know strength to be.

But strength can be as quiet, as it can be loud, it can be as gentle, as it can be aggressive. It can also be peaceful, there is also rest in strength, which is simply relying on God to put us at ease. To rest is to believe in God, allowing him to carry you and hold you through moments when peace seems so far away and weariness starts to set in.

We are used to strength in being active, but it can be passive and as simple as choosing to trust in the one who has called you. There is something beautiful about trust and confidence in God, it has a way of stabilising us and quieting our souls.
